PELUM Ethiopia has organized practical training for member organizations and partners on implementation of Agro-ecology at smallholder farming level with a special focus on organic soil, diversification and crop protection. the training consisted theoretical and practical trainings, discussions as well as experience sharing visits. During their stay, Participants practiced conventional compost, organic pesticide (ash brew), and liquid fertilizers.
A two day training was organized by PELUM Ethiopia in collabration with Addis Ababa city administration, farmers and urban agriculture development Commission for experts representing different sub-cities on the horticultural crops production, vermi-composting and waste management from 25-26 February, 2022. the training was held at a nursery site and training center owned by the commission, located at woreda 10,yeka sub-city.
A two day Awareness creation workshop on strengthening transition towards Agro-ecology for ensuring sustainable agriculture and food systems has been organized by PELUM Ethiopia Consortium in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture(MoA), GIZ and European Union and held on 10-11 February, 2022 at Tokuma Hotel, Adama. The workshop has brought together around 50 participants representing different organizations like, CSOs, research institutions, different directorates from MoA, and members of parliament. . the main objectives were ;
To create an understanding of the transition to Agro-ecology to ensure sustainable agriculture and food security.
To realize the potential for change in the agricultural sector by creating awareness and coordination with government bodies, farmers and civic society associations based on soil health& fertility, agroecology and food systems in our country.
To address the gaps in the implementation of policy, strategic planning in the agricultural sector and set solutions.
To keep & it complete Soil health and fertility, Agro-ecology and food system.
the objectives and programs of the consultative workshop was presented by Mr. Dereje Regasa. the opening remark was also delivered by Mr. Meles, State minister of the Ethiopian ministry of Agriculture.The workshop accompanied by 10 presentations by different presenters on soil health and fertility, agroecology and food systems, as well as policy and strategic plans presented to the workshop participants. after the presentations, participants forwarded their reflections, opinions and questions. thus, the points were well captured and answered from the stage. at the end of the workshop, the participants discussed on the way forward and agreed to to prepare monitoring and evaluation checklist for policies and strategies. to complete the land use policy, proclamation and strategy and implement it sooner than later, apply vermi-compost, compost and other organic means and conduct further studies and to organize similar workshops.
the workshop was met its objectives and concluded by apperciating PELUM Ethiopia and GIZ for organizing the valuable workshop and the participants.
A five day Experience sharing visit and practical training on highland fruit especially apple fruit for participants from highland communities i.e. MitakAmanuel, Ticho and Assela was organized from 19-24 December, 2021 in Kachabira, Kembata zone, SNNP. The types of participants were people from apple growing areas, project beneficiaries and development agents.
PELUM Ethiopia consortium in collaboration with CCRDA and PHE Ethiopia has organized a one day National consultative workshop on “the prospects of agro-ecological farming system in Ethiopia in the face of globalizing agriculture” with special focus in Enset. The national consultative workshop was held on 05 November, 2020 at CCRDA’s meeting hall in Addis Ababa. The workshop brought together approximately 62 participants, representing development associations, farmers, academics, universities, researchers, CSOs, private sector, governmental officials (HoR, PMO, MoA, biodiversity institute etc.) and media (print, radio and TV), attended the workshop.
The Consultative meeting on soil health and fertility stakeholders’ platform was organized by the MoA, GIZ and PELUM Ethiopia and held on 30 September 2021 at Saro Maria hotel in Addis Ababa. The stakeholders’ platform brought around 70 participants from partners and stakeholders i.e. officials, civil society organizations, research institutes, universities, regional bureaus of agriculture, different directorates of MoA, invited farmers, media and etc.
