Highland fruit experience sharing and management training in Kacha-bira, Kembata zone

A five day Experience sharing visit and practical training on highland fruit especially apple fruit for participants from highland communities i.e. MitakAmanuel, Ticho and Assela was organized from 19-24 December, 2021 in Kachabira, Kembata zone, SNNP. The types of participants were people from apple growing areas, project beneficiaries and development agents. 

the capacity building training was as an activity which is part of the project signed between EOC-DICAC and PELUM Ethiopia to implement different project activities through the project entitled “sustainable forest management, regional program” at pre-identified monasteries and churches located at different parts of the country. The main objective of the training was to improve the capacity of trainees on Apple fruit production. the training was delivered by a highly experienced grower farmer called Mr. Weldeamanuel, who based in Kachabira, Kembata zone.

The main topics covered were; land preparation, raising root stocks, pruning and training, handling apple trees, identifying apple varieties, composting and irrigation, how to select scions and root stocks, and the overall management. The training was very interesting, practical and participants gained basic knowledge on apple fruit production and its management starting from land preparation to harvesting. Moreover, they promised to improve their growing habits and share others what they have been thought during their stay. The total number of trainees were 26 (4F).
