PELUM Ethiopia has organized training for member organizations
The three day practical training was organized by PELUM and focuses on “creating healthy soil for healthy plant, environment and food”. More than 21 best performing farmers and field officers representing five member organizations namely, ASE, EOC-DICAC, BPA, and MELCA Ethiopia, including PELUM Ethiopia staff members are participating at the valuable training. 

 

   The first day training was held at seed multiplication and training center owned by Addis Ababa city administration farmers and urban agriculture development commission and mainly targeted on agro-ecological based soil fertility enhancing techniques. i.e. simple conventional compost making and Vermicomposting. the training consisted theoretical and practical sessions. Besides, participants have had the opportunity to visit exemplary urban agriculture work by individual grower at woreda 10, yeka sub-city. Late afternoon, trainees traveled to Adama. The second day training will be held in Huruta, lode hitosa town of Arisi zone and will focus on diversification and plant protection. The training will continue until 18 October, 2022 

The second day training was organized in Huruta town. During the morning session, two practical trainings have been given. The first session is focused on preparation and utilization bio fertilizers. it was a mixture of soft and deep green leafs, urine, animal dung and water.
The second practical training was also on bio-pesticide specifically Ash Brew. The main inputs were basically ash, bar soap, water and little oil. Both trainings were accompanied by different questions and reflections on the respective each trainings. it was also participatory, simple, and replicable and is useful for farmers, practitioners and experts.
Prior to the third session, Participants agreed in one word to further push the lunch period to be able them get enough time to visit exemplary agro-ecological based growers. During the experience sharing visit, trainees have been delivered evaluation sheets to assess farm diversification. Therefore it helped them understand the basic principles of agro-ecology practically.
The fourth and final session of the training program was planning, reflections and the way forward. Interestingly, the discussions were held inside the coaster bus while traveling. On the occasion, majority of the trainees reflected on their desire and the possibilities of replicating similar practices at their respective areas. Moreover, the farmers promised to create farmer level excellence centers inside their belongings.
The training was successfully completed and our guests are traveling to their areas. PELUM Ethiopia appreciates the trainees as well the member organizations they represent.
