Consultative meeting on " Mitigating the Negative Impacts of Highly Hazardous Chemicals"
PELUM Ethiopia together with PAN Ethiopia has organized a one day consultative meeting entitled "Mitigating the negative impact of highly hazardous pesticides” held on July 06, 2023 at Panorama Hotel.
The aim of this consultative meeting was to see the situation of Highly Hazardous pesticides at national and international level and put action points for the safety of our country and people.
The meeting commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Tadesse Amera, PAN Ethiopia director. After the welcome and introduction, four paper presentation delivered by scholars; paper presentation on “international and regional efforts to phaseout highly hazardous pesticides” is presented by Dr Tadesse Amera. Adem Gebi, pesticide inspector from Ethiopian Agriculture authority(EAA) presented on the title “ efforts of Ethiopian Agriculture Authority in regulating Highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs)". Dr Hailu Araya , Pelum Ethiopia director delivered presentation on “Agro-ecology: why focus on healing the soil?”. The 4th and final presentation of the day is by Atalo Belay the title of the presentation is “phasing out HHP insecticides in smallholder vegetables in Ethiopia’s central rift valley”. During the meeting, participants shared their thoughts and opinions and questions and answers were part of the session.
40 participants representing international and local NGOs, Governmental organizations and private sectors participated.
